About Me & FAQs
Rebecca Kempenich, MS, LMFT
What do the letters after your name mean?
They mean that I am qualified as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and that if you have a problem, I can help.
Do you have additional training?
Yes, I have attended countless continuing education programs. and am additionally certified in: Gottman Couples Therapy (level 1), Compulsive Hoarding (level 2), and PREPARE/ENRICH (premarital counseling).
You look really young, are you sure you can help me?
I do look really young, so does my dad, thanks for noticing. Although I look young, I can pretty much guarantee you I'm not as young as I look. I've always been told I have an old soul and could understand things others found difficult . Thus far, in my career I've only ever received compliments from clients regarding my maturity and gentle attention to their needs. With coworkers in the past I have often become the go to person for difficult clients or advise on how to manage a situation. I look forward to letting my abilities surprise you.
How do I know if I need counseling?
If you are spending time looking at this website, there is a good chance that you are ready to improve your life. People go to counseling for many reasons but the main one is that they want things to improve and they feel discouraged by where their attempts to improve things have gotten them. Other people come to therapy for relationship help, assistance with setting boundaries, and to improve feelings about their own self-worth.

Can I use my insurance?
I am in network for several insurance plans (see Fees & Services page). If your plan is not listed contact your health insurance provider to find out what your out-of-network coverage is for mental health counseling. I can provide a receipt for your insurance needs, and any other information your insurance company may need to reimburse you under out-of-network benefits. Consider asking your insurance company: What mental health benefits do I have? How much do I pay for an out-of-network provider? What is my deductible? Do I need a referral from a doctor first?
Is therapy worth the cost?
Therapy can be expensive, not only financially but emotionally. The question is not if therapy is worth it, but if you are worth the investment in yourself. I believe you are. Therapy is hard work but many people actually enjoy it. Why not give it a try?
What else should I know about you?
I love my work, and strive to make a positive difference in the world. I have over 5 years of experience in various therapeutic settings. My Masters Degree is from the University of Wisconsin - Stout in Marriage & Family Therapy, a program with one of the best reputations for clinical training in the region. Accountability and professionalism are important to me, so I am a clinical member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), and abide by their code of ethics. I am an active member of the Minnesota Hoarding Task Force. Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked mostly in nonprofits with mentally and physically disabled individuals.
I am a small town Wisconsin native, so I know what it is like to grow up in the mid-west. I cherish time with my husband and dog, and enjoy several indoor and outdoor hobbies. In all things I strive to "...live a life worthy of the calling received". Ephesians 4:1.
